What It Supports

All proceeds from the 40th Annual HK’s Hospital Benefit Golf Tournament will help purchase a new heart monitoring system for Lake Regional Cardiopulmonary Rehab. This busy department cares for more than 3,000 patients annually who require monitors to exercise safely.

The new central monitoring system will double Lake Regional’s capacity to accept new patients into the program.

“Cardiac rehabilitation helps patients who have faced serious cardiovascular events live longer and with better quality of life,” said Jennifer Newman, director of Lake Regional Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. “The sooner eligible patients begin treatment, the better their chances are for surviving and thriving long after their heart attack or heart surgery.”

The state-of-the-art system includes hand-held technology that allows nurses to stay side-by-side with their patients, rather than monitoring them from a central station. It also monitors oxygen levels more comfortably and accurately, improving safety for patients.

About Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac rehabilitation helps patients improve their cardiovascular fitness; monitor their heart rate and blood pressure; reduce their intake of foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol; quit smoking; and manage stress. It also provides patients an opportunity to meet others who have experienced a similar health event. Physicians order cardiac rehabilitation for their patients and supervise the program.

Cardiac rehab at Lake Regional is a three-phase program that includes consultation and monitoring by a registered nurse, exercise physiologist and registered dietitian. Throughout the phases, patients learn about their medications, diet and how to exercise safely.

“The support we offer also helps patients improve their strength and confidence, enabling them to lead fuller, more active lives,” Newman said.

Lake Regional’s cardiopulmonary program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Phase I, II and III services are available at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. In addition, Phase II and III services are available at Lake Regional’s Cardiac Rehab clinics in Eldon and Laurie. Phase III services are available at all of these locations, plus Lake Regional’s Camdenton and Lake Ozark clinics. Learn more at www.lakeregional.com/HeartCare.
